SUMMER SESSION 2026

The Qi of Taiji

Qi of Taiji explores the fluid movements of taiji as a living practice—one that slowly, almost imperceptibly, moves into other areas of life. Like osmosis, the work softens what has become rigid and invites life to move with a little more ease.

A mindful moving meditation

The slow, fluid movements of taiji are a direct pathway to listen more deeply—to the body, the breath, and the quiet intelligence that lives beneath effort.

Join us for an embodied exploration of presence, perception, and steadiness—rooted in ancient taiji and informed by modern life.

Virtual Class

No prior taiji experience is required—only a willingness to move slowly, pay attention, and explore what lives beneath the surface of form.

What This Practice Is

The slow, steady movements of taiji do more than teach us how to slow down. They teach the body what it actually feels like to be regulated. To enjoy. To savor. To let the volume of life turn down a few decibels.

Qi of Taiji is not about learning choreography or perfecting form.
It’s a moving meditation that invites awareness through slow, attentive motion.

In this practice, we explore:

  • Movement as a way of listening

  • Qi as relationship, not force

  • Attention as a stabilizing presence

  • Simplicity over effort

In this series, we’ll begin to sense the body’s major energy centers and notice where qi—our vital energy—tends to leak through habit, tension, or distraction. From there, we learn how to cultivate and store energy rather than continually spending it, supporting steadiness and peaceful longevity.

 Who This Practice Is For

Qi of Taiji is for those who are drawn to a quieter way of practicing—something more like meditation, but with the body moving gently through space.

It’s for people who are curious about philosophy, nature, and the subtle threads that weave together the material and the unseen. Those who sense that harmony isn’t something to achieve or display, but something to return to again and again.

This practice is well-suited for people who:

  • Are drawn to quieter, mindful forms of movement

  • Enjoy philosophy, nature, and contemplation

  • Feel curious about Eastern and Western ways of understanding the body

  • Are craving steadiness, rootedness, and simplicity

  • Want community without performance or pressure

Who This Practice Is Not For

Qi of Taiji may not be the right fit if you’re primarily looking for mad muscles and a ripped body. While the practice is physically engaging, the emphasis is not on exertion, shaping the body, or measurable performance.

It may also not resonate if you’re not curious about your inner life or the questions that extend beyond the purely physical or material experience. This work gently invites reflection, subtlety, and a willingness to listen inwardly.

This practice may not be a good fit if you:

  • Are looking primarily for a workout or fitness routine

  • Prefer fast-paced, high-intensity movement

  • Are not interested in inner exploration or philosophy

  • Are currently over-scheduled and unable to make space

  • Like the structure of rigid ideas of right/wrong over nuance and curiosity

At the heart of this practice is Essence, your stable and neutral center, the quiet intelligence that holds space for all that arises.

Surrounding Essence are your Three Advisors—the physical, emotional, and mental guides that help you interpret the world.

The Physical Advisor notices sensations and movement, the Emotional Advisor tunes into feelings and moods, and the Mental Advisor observes thoughts and stories.

In this course, you’ll learn to sense how the Advisors respond to tension, stress, or imbalance, and how to let Essence remain steady as the guiding force.

With this awareness, movement and release become more than exercise—they become a dialogue with your inner landscape, helping you navigate life with presence, clarity, and grounded ease.
